CHOOSING YOUR AGENT’S TOOLS

ActAs vs AgentMail

Choose AgentMail for an email platform. Choose ActAs when your agent also needs saved logins, scoped secrets and account workflows.

Both give agents their own email and work with MCP clients. ActAs uses AgentMail for email delivery and inboxes; the distinction is the account and credential layer around them.

What you get

WorkflowAgentMailActAs
EmailAPI inboxes, threads, attachments, custom domains and event integrations.Email attached to a persistent agent identity, alongside its saved accounts and credentials.
Accounts and sign-inAgentID connects an inbox to participating apps and supports app account creation and sign-in.Save account records, encrypted login fields and TOTP secrets; use scoped account workflows. A saved record alone does not create an external account.
PermissionsFine-grained API-key permissions intersect with organization, pod or inbox scope.Grant individual resources, actions and vault fields to an identity connection. Revoke access when the task ends.
SMSNot compared here; check AgentMail’s current offering.Planned Android-phone SMS forwarding. It is marked coming soon and is not a live reason to switch today. ActAs does not provision a phone number.
Getting startedA free plan is available.Pro is US$12/month or US$120/year. There is no free tier; the MCP client source is MIT.

Where ActAs fits

If the task is sending and receiving email, start by evaluating AgentMail directly. ActAs is useful when the next step is “sign into this service using only these credentials,” with saved account state and access that stays separate from the model running your agent.

Website rules still apply. Some browser actions and private verification handles require the local runtime. Hosted MCP clients can retain tool results: ActAs withholds stored passwords and TOTP codes remotely unless you explicitly opt in, and existing scopes still apply.

Try it with your own workflow

Read the MCP setup guide, review ActAs pricing, or download the MIT client and its source. Use an identity connection with only the permissions your agent needs.
